Resources for Parents

Parents have much responsibility for helping their teen learn to drive and for getting license.  Historically, there have been few resources that train parents on how to be an effective driving coach or other needed tools.  Until now.  Top Driver has created the following resources to help parents confidently manage the driver training and licensing processes.

Parent Coaching Program
Ohio requires parents to coach their teen for a minimum of 50 hours of practice driving.  As their coach, you play a vital role in helping them learn how to drive. However, parents often view this time together with fear and nervousness.  You may know how to drive but likely don't know how to teach someone to drive.  And teaching teens presents its own challenges.  Top Driver Driving School is here to help.

We've created training to help you learn what to say, what not to say and how to spot dangerous driving habits.  This 30-minute training will help maximize your time together in the car.  To access, please go to http://coaching.topdriver.com .

Parent/Teen Driving Contract

We believe that parents and teens should agree on the parameters of what it means to get a license at the outset and create a Parent/Teen Driving Contract to facilitate the discussion.  This contract can be one of the most important elements of the driver training experience. By working together and encouraging active participation, we’re confident that your teen will understand and embrace Driver Intelligence to its fullest extent. Practice Driving Log
In Ohio, teens are required to practice driving under adult/parent supervision for a minimum of 50 hours.  You know your teen better than anyone.  Additional hours may not only be necessary but will further aid in your teen's driving development.  Also ensure that they practice in various road conditions (e.g. urban, suburban, light vs. heavy traffic) and various weather conditions/times (sun, nighttime, rain, snow, early morning, etc).

The state also requires parental affirmation or certification of the practice driving time.  To help you record this time, we've created a log that you and your teen can use to summarize each driving session.  Click here to access the pdf file: Practice Driving Log.pdf
